Look into your fears

I have wanted to talk about one book for a couple of months already, and now it seems much more appropriate. In this current situation, most of us feel worried or scared. And that’s fine and natural because it is scary. We are facing something we don’t know, something we have never experienced before. This book (The places that scare you – A guide to fearlessness by Pema Chodron) is about our fears and how to deal with them. And the best way is to look them straight in the eyes. This book offers some ways to do it through meditation and bodhichitta teaching. I have to say, despite the fact that I think it’s a good book giving me good reminders, especially about the “in-between” situations (like mine at the moment), I was a little bit disappointed… (that is a typical issue with expectations, isn’t it?). I was expecting some very practical and daily life tips and very specific to some common fears. There are some very good examples, however, the book is more about a general practice to deal with, not only, our fears but also anger and other emotions. It’s a very powerful technique that the author offers us… but like everything, it means a lot of practice… Maybe now is the right moment to start…
